The Flyers have decided that Bryzgalov just does not fit. The outspoken net-minder was supposed to be the final piece of a Flyers team with Stanley Cup aspirations. He failed to help the team reach that goal. Although it was not completely his fault, his erratic play coupled with his brash outspokenness, was enough for the Flyers to send Bryzgalov packing.

The team will use their second and last compliance buyout on the remainder of Bryzgalov’s hefty deal. The goalie still had seven years left on his contract and was owed $23 million. According to CapGeek.com, the buyout will go down as the largest in league history.

Bryzgalov has made more headlines in Philadelphia off the ice than he has on it. He made some controversial statements this past year that seemed to imply some distaste for Philadelphia because of the “oldness” of the city. He went on to also make remarks about the residents of the city’s ghettos.

Bryzgalov also battled with several members of the media and even attempted to coach them in terms of their journalistic abilities. Bryzgalov seemed more passionate about the solar system and Betsy Ross than he ever did about the Flyers.

The Flyers made the decision to use their other buyout on Danny Briere last week. The only remaining goalie on the team is Steve Mason.
